Love Language
Love Language. Love Language. What's your loved one's love language. Are you speaking it? Today I challenge you to identify your loved one's love language and begin to practice it so that you may learn to speak it fluently. A love language is a way to express love to others. The five love languages are: words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time, and physical touch.
Words of affirmation is shown by compliments and words of encouragement. Acts of service is shown by doing, in this case "actions speak louder than words." Receiving gifts is shown through symbols of love like flowers, candy, handmade gifts, etc. Quality time is shown by giving your loved one your undivided attention. Physical touch is shown by making love, hugging, kissing, physical affection, etc. The challenges you completed last week prompted you to express love to your loved one with one of these five love languages. This was done to provide you the space to express love to your loved one by means of all five of the love languages, exploring and practicing a new one each day. Now that we have shown love towards our loved one through the love languages I encourage you to identify which one best describes the way your loved one receives love. Once you identify it, remember it and use it, as that is your loved ones love language. Fill your loved one's cup by speaking their language fluently, often, and seamlessly.
One of my favorite books about identifying you and your loved one's love language is called, The 5 Love Languages, by Dr. Gary Chapman. If you haven't read this book I highly recommend reading it and invite your loved one to read it as well. It is also available as an audiobook (a great road trip companion). There is also a love languages quiz that you can take at your leisure.
Your loved one may have multiple love languages. A primary language and some additional secondary love languages. Take a few minutes each day to identify your loved one's needs. Then try to meet those needs using their love language as your vehicle. Expressing love to your loved one by using their love language can enhance your relationship.
