About Mel

Melissa is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 10 years of experience in the psychotherapy field. Melissa graduated from the University of La Verne with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and obtained her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University Long Beach. She became a licensed therapist in 2008. Melissa has worked in several clinical and mental health settings such as, hospitals, rehab centers, schools, in-home counseling, and non-profit organizations. Melissa has also worked in her own private practice, “U Help You.”  The moniker, U Help You, mirrors Melissa’s strong belief that every person has the strength, skills and great qualities to overcome their obstacles; at times they just need someone to show them how to access those tools within themselves.

Melissa has always enjoyed literature, writing, reading, and poetry. She has been writing poetry since her early teen years and she began to take her writings more serious in her high school years. She remembers her mom, her aunt, college professors and her high school Literature and Advanced Placement English teachers being her inspiration and motivation to write more and to share her writings with others.

Melissa and her husband married in 2010 and are parents to three young children all under the age of six. They made a joint decision for Melissa to become a stay home mom and raise their children. Melissa has expressed that she loves “working” for her family and that she appreciates how her new “job” has provided her with flexibility to write more.  Melissa shares her reason for starting her blog here. She is using this new chapter in her life to launch herself into the writing community. The family currently resides in Southern California.
